Pikachu-licensed apparel and headband manufactured by Takara under the Pokémon merchandise rollout

For Licensors & Brand Owners

Bringing an IP to Market, On-Model Every Time

Approved art files, licensor-grade audits, and 3-stage QC, the same standard we've run on Pokémon since 2016 and on Doraemon, Shin-chan, and One Piece since 2018.

Why licensing manufacturing goes wrong

Most Factories Aren't Built for Someone Else's IP

A generic factory optimizes for its own catalog. A licensed program needs a partner who treats your style guide as the spec, not a suggestion.

What usually happens

  • Off-model production: proportions, color, and finish drift from the approved art the moment a factory's own convenience takes over.
  • Style-guide sign-off skipped: a bulk run starts before the licensor has approved a physical Golden Sample, discovered only after the mold is cut.
  • No audit trail: no factory-level compliance record to hand a licensor's legal or brand-protection team when they ask for one.

How Takara runs a licensed program

  • Exact color-matching: Pantone references and physical color standards held to the same ratio a Japanese licensor's own QC team checks against, not eyeballed on a factory floor.
  • Golden Sample gate: a physical, licensor-approved sample signed off before bulk production starts, not after.
  • 3-stage QC on every run: raw material inspection, in-line DUPRO, and final AQL 2.5 sampling, documented per shipment.

This discipline is not new to us: it's how our Doraemon, Shin-chan, and One Piece OEM program has run for Tagger, the master licensee of those characters in Vietnam, since 2018.

How we work with licensors

Five Stages, From License to Retail Shelf

Takara manages the upstream so you can focus on the story your IP is telling.

1. License & Style-Guide Onboarding

Your brand book, approved color references, and usage rules become the working spec every partner factory on the job is briefed against.

2. Concept, Design & Color Approval

Concept sketches, a physical Golden Sample, and Pantone-matched color proofs go back to you for sign-off before a single mold or cut-and-sew line starts.

3. Production & 3-Stage QC

Raw material inspection, in-line DUPRO checks, and final AQL 2.5 sampling at a partner factory audited before the order was ever placed.

4. Logistics, Delivery & Retail Activation

Packed, documented, and delivered to your retail doors or e-commerce fulfillment partner, ready for the activation date you set.

Product safety

Compliance Your Legal Team Can Sign Off On

None of this is a certification Takara holds itself: it's what the partner network tests to and documents on every shipment, verified through accredited third-party labs on request, whichever category your merchandise line falls into.

Mechanical & Physical

  • ASTM F963 (US)Mechanical and physical hazards, including sharp edges left by de-molding and small parts that can break loose under stress.
  • EN71-1 (EU)Mechanical and physical properties for molded and cast parts sold into the EU.
  • ISO 8124-1 / -2 / -3The international baseline most Asia-manufactured toys are built to before a region's own certification is layered on top.

Chemical & Regulatory

  • CPSIA (US)100ppm total lead limit and a 0.1% cap on eight restricted phthalates, backed by mandatory third-party lab testing and a Children's Product Certificate for every production lot.
  • EN71-3 / REACH (EU)Migration limits on lead, cadmium, and chromium, plus REACH restrictions on Substances of Very High Concern in plastics, plasticizers, and surface coatings.
  • California Prop 65A separate warning-label requirement from federal limits, triggered by a listed chemical above its own threshold: a gap buyers miss until a shipment gets held at port.

Which standards actually apply depends on the destination market and the product itself; a quote will name the exact tests a given run needs, not a generic checklist.
