How We Vet Factories: Standards for Retail & US Export
A cheap quote means nothing if customs seizes your container over a missing FAMA authorization, or a retail chain rejects delivery over a missing CR stamp. Here's how we vet partner factories across Vietnam.
The Production Reality: Why Factories Actually Fail
Most factories don't fail at sewing. They fail on operational details: a skipped needle scan, damp fill storage, unvetted subcontracting. We qualify partner factories on the ground so you find out before your containers leave, not after.
The Unglamorous Details
We check fill humidity, needle-detector logs (Fe 0.8mm), and batch isolation on the active floor.
Zero Village Subcontracting
Lines stay locked to the approved factory. Unannounced checks confirm nothing gets offloaded to home workshops.
Legal & FAMA Audit Pass
FAMA, Walmart FCCA, and QCVN 3 stamps verified before release.
Chapter 01 • Two Different Channels
Domestic Vietnam Distribution vs. US Export
Compliance depends on where you sell. We split it by channel, so you never overpay or under-test.
Vietnam Domestic Requirements
The line that matters: given away, or sold on retail shelves.
Branded plush for anniversaries and event gifts, not sold as a commercial toy under Vietnamese law.
Sold through WinMart, Co.opmart, Aeon Mall, Lotte Mart, and Fahasa.
Mandatory chemical assays, seam-burst limits, and Vietnamese labeling before warehouse intake.
US Retail & Export Requirements
Built for US federal toy law, major retailers, and international IP licensors.
Required before producing Disney, Marvel, Pixar, or Star Wars merchandise. Unauthorized facilities get containers seized at customs.
US retailers require verified third-party audits of factory labor conditions.
Physical, mechanical, and chemical testing required before US customs clearance and retail.
Chapter 02 • Social Compliance Audits
How We Use amfori BSCI Audit Grades
No verbal promises, no self-audits. We rely on independent amfori BSCI audits with clear cut-offs for production orders.
| Grade | Audit Result | Our Order Policy | Audit Validity | Operational Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | Outstanding (95–100%) | Preferred Facility | 24 Months | Top-priority line allocation for licensed IP and major retail runs. |
| B | Good (80–94%) | Approved Standard | 24 Months | Standard production allocation; minor observations monitored by Takara QC. |
| C | Acceptable (60–79%) | Conditional Hold | 12 Months (CAP) | Factory must submit an approved Corrective Action Plan (CAP) before new POs are placed. |
| D | Insufficient (40–59%) | Disqualified | Immediate Stop | Zero production orders. Facility suspended until a clean re-audit is completed. |
| E | Unacceptable (<40%) | Permanently Banned | Expelled | Permanent removal from Takara’s manufacturing network. |
OUR RULE: No purchase orders go to Grade D or E factories. If a partner slips at re-audit, production moves to an approved backup line.
Chapter 03 • Independent Test Labs
Where Products Are Actually Tested
We never test in-house. Every chemical assay, seam-pull certificate, and regulatory report comes from an accredited international test house.
SGS Vietnam
Our primary lab for ASTM F963, CPSIA lead limits, and QCVN 3.
Bureau Veritas
Handles Disney ILS audits, flammability testing, and factory verification.
Intertek
Screens restricted substances, Prop 65, phthalates, and packaging.
TÜV Rheinland
Our lab for EN71, mechanical stress tests, and CE marking.
Chapter 04 • On-The-Ground Inspection
Our 5-Gate Factory Inspection SOP
Quality isn't a final check after 20,000 units are already sealed. We inspect across 5 stages.
Gate 01: Document & License Screening
We verify business licenses, export tax history, and active BSCI/FAMA certificates first.
Gate 02: Floor Walkthrough & Calibration
We inspect needle-detector logs, broken-needle exchange records, material storage, and fire exits.
Gate 03: Golden Sample Lab Sign-Off
Before mass cutting, a pilot sample goes to SGS or Quatest 3 for pull and chemical testing.
Gate 04: In-Line DUPRO (at 20% Mark)
At 20% sewn, our QC engineer checks cutting, embroidery, and seam tension on the line, catching flaws early.
Gate 05: Final AQL 2.5 & Container Sealing
Carton sampling under AQL 2.5/4.0, drop testing, and serialized bolt sealing before departure.
