Custom plushies · Soft & minimal style
Jellycat-style plushies, made under your own brand
Super-soft fur, a slouchy body, a quiet embroidered face. If your brand or your corporate gift needs that look, Takara develops an original plushie in the same spirit and has it made at a vetted partner factory in Vietnam, with your label, hangtag and packaging.
Six details behind the soft, minimal plushie style
The style is a set of construction choices, not a secret. These are the ones to put in your brief.
01
Super-soft, short-pile fur
A dense, velvety surface that feels expensive in the hand. Crystal Velboa and 1.5 mm minky are the usual choices; sherpa or bouclé add texture.
In your brief: Name the fabric feel you want and send a reference swatch or photo.
02
A slouchy, floppy body
Limbs and ears are filled lightly so they hang and flop, while the body keeps its shape. It comes from the pattern and the filling density, not the fabric alone.
In your brief: Say which parts should flop and which should stand.
03
A minimal embroidered face
Small embroidered eyes and nose instead of plastic eyes. It keeps the face calm and avoids small parts on products for young children.
In your brief: Send the face as a simple front view; fewer lines embroider better.
04
A weighted base
A pellet pouch sewn into a closed inner bag lets the plushie sit upright on a desk or shelf.
In your brief: Tell Takara if the product is meant for young children, because it affects testing.
05
Everyday things with a face
Food, plants and objects turned into characters are a big part of the style, and they suit brands: a product, a dish or a mascot becomes a soft object.
In your brief: Start from one simple silhouette with few pattern pieces.
06
A calm, muted palette
Creams, sage, dusty pink, soft browns. Colors are picked from stock fabric ranges, matched as closely as possible to your reference.
In your brief: Give Pantone references; custom-dyed fabric starts from 3,000 pcs.

03 · Retail vs custom
Buying designer plush as gifts vs making your own plushie
Many companies hand out designer-brand plush as gifts. A custom plushie in the same style carries your brand instead of someone else’s.

Can you copy a specific Jellycat design?
No. Takara does not reproduce another brand’s designs, characters, labels or packaging. Your design must be original or licensed to you. Takara can help develop an original design from your brief; design work is quoted per project.
What is the minimum order for a custom plushie?
500 pcs per design for Vietnam (corporate gifts and Vietnamese retail) and 1,000 pcs per design for export. Ready-made catalogue patterns start at 500 pcs per order, with designs mixed.
Which fabric gives that super-soft feel?
Short-pile fabrics such as Crystal Velboa and 1.5 mm minky give the dense, velvety feel; sherpa and bouclé add texture. Send a reference and Takara proposes the closest available fabric.
Can the fabric match our Pantone colors?
Below 3,000 pcs, colors are chosen from stock fabric ranges and matched as closely as possible to your Pantone reference. Custom-dyed fabric starts from 3,000 pcs.
Which safety tests does a plushie need?
It depends on where it is sold: for example EN 71 for the EU, ASTM F963 and CPSIA for the US, QCVN 3 with the CR mark for retail in Vietnam. Corporate gifts given away in Vietnam, not sold, need only a full VAT invoice. Testing is done for partner factories by accredited labs.
