Factory vetting

# Know your products are made right,
before you pay the balance.

Every order goes to a partner factory that has already passed Takara’s checks on quality, safety, working conditions and design protection. You get the documents your retailer or licensor will ask for.

01 · Before your order

## What a factory must pass before it sees your artwork

Each partner factory is checked against the same four criteria before any work is assigned, and again on later orders.

### Quality

How the line controls materials, workmanship and inspection, and whether it has made products like yours before.

### People

Working conditions, wages and safety, checked against recognised social audits such as amfori BSCI or Sedex SMETA held by the factory.

### Environment

How the facility handles waste, chemicals and energy.

### Production integrity

Real capacity for your quantity, no hidden subcontracting, and your artwork kept on the assigned line.

02 · During your order

## Checked at every step, not just at the end

Problems are cheapest to fix early, so your order is checked five times on its way to you.

1. 01 Materials in Fabric, filling, plastic and colour checked against your approved spec before cutting or molding.
2. 02 Sample you sign You approve a real sample. It becomes the reference every piece is checked against.
3. 03 During production Early pieces from the line are checked so issues are caught in the first hours, not the last day.
4. 04 Before shipping A random-sample final inspection of the finished goods, packing and labels.
5. 05 Documents to you Inspection report, plus test reports and the factory’s audit certificates when your market needs them.

03 · Your market

## Tell us where you sell. The right standard follows.

Takara matches your order to a partner factory and an accredited lab that work to your market’s standard.

| Where you sell | What buyers usually ask for |
| --- | --- |
| Vietnam | QCVN 3 toy safety and the CR mark |
| United States | ASTM F963 and CPSIA testing |
| European Union | EN71 toy safety testing |
| Licensed characters | A factory authorised by the licensor, for example FAMA for Disney programs |
| Big retailers | Social audits such as amfori BSCI or Sedex SMETA |
| Any market | Lab reports from accredited labs such as SGS or Bureau Veritas |

Standards and audits are held by the partner factories and labs that make and test your goods.

04 · Compliance planning

## Define compliance requirements at the start of the engagement

Certification and testing requirements shape factory selection, cost and lead time. They should be specified at the inquiry stage, and confirmed no later than contract signature.

01

### Specify requirements at inquiry, confirm them in the contract

Required certifications, audits and test reports determine which partner factories are eligible, the testing scope, and the resulting cost and schedule. Requirements introduced after production has started may require re-sampling, additional testing or a change of facility.

02

### Standards differ by country and by sales channel

Each destination market, and often each retailer or licensor, sets its own requirements. A product that complies in one market is not automatically compliant in another. Where goods will be distributed in several markets, all of them should be declared upfront so that testing covers every destination.

03

### Higher-tier programs require meaningful order volumes

Programs such as Disney FAMA, amfori BSCI and Sedex SMETA are held by a limited number of qualified facilities, which carry higher overheads and plan capacity for larger runs. They are generally practical for orders of relatively large quantity. For smaller runs, Takara recommends the appropriate level of assurance, typically product-safety testing to the destination market’s standard.

### Include the following in your request for quotation

- Destination markets and countries of sale
- Sales channel and named retailers, if any
- Licensor or brand-owner requirements (for example FAMA)
- Certificates, audit reports and test reports required
- Target order quantity and delivery schedule
- Labelling, packaging and documentation requirements

06 · FAQ

## What buyers ask about quality and safety

**When should compliance requirements be communicated?**

At the inquiry stage, and no later than contract signature. Requirements determine factory eligibility, testing scope, cost and lead time; adding them after production has started may require re-sampling or a change of facility.

**Which standard does my product need?**

It depends on where you sell and who buys from you. Tell Takara your market and your retailer or licensor, and the right tests and audits are built into your quote.

**Will I get the test and audit documents?**

Yes. Your inspection report comes with every order, and test reports and the factory’s audit certificates are provided when your market or buyer requires them.

**What happens if goods fail the final inspection?**

They don’t ship. The issue is corrected and the goods are inspected again. The balance is paid only after the goods pass.

**How is my design protected?**

An NDA is signed before files are shared, and your artwork is used only for your order on the assigned line.

**Can the same factory make my next order?**

Yes. Repeat orders usually go back to the factory that already knows your product, after it is checked again.

## Make it safely, the first time.

Tell Takara what you are making and where it will sell. You get a plan with the right checks built in.
